Answer: Often, it is a matter of great confusion for the students in choosing a further stream of study after the 10th and 12th standard. Due to parental interference, peer pressure, or some other factor, the student often ends up choosing a study stream which he/she is not comfortable with and consequently ends up with more complications. It is very important to choose a subject of your liking and aptitude as otherwise you may tend to get demoralised and dejected.

If you think with some of hard work you would be able to cope up with subject and there is no harm trying for it as mathematics can prove to be quite useful for you in your future studies. But if you think you won't be able to cope up with this subject, then you still have time to change the combination of your subjects. In the commerce stream, those who don't take up mathematics can opt for any of the elective subjects like Informatics Practices, Fashion Designing or Physical Education.

As far as your dream to be an IAS officer is concerned, you can go for it only after you complete your graduation. For that mathematics is not compulsory.

All the best
