Subject: Career after Msc microbiology
Date: 27-Jan-2010

Question: I am pursuing my M.sc microbiology. What are the chances for me to pursue a career in science journalism. What are the qualifications for this job

Answer: To become a science journalist, you should have an enthusiasm for, and much interest in, science subjects. Journalism is a good option if you have an aptitude for writing; an analytical mind; observational and presentation skills; the reading habit; communication ability; presence of mind; and courage.

To become a science journalist, better opt for science subjects at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Those who obtain M.Sc. degrees with good marks can join as journalist trainees in leading newspapers. Alternatively, after taking a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree, one can go for postgraduate degree or diploma courses in journalism. Such courses provide knowledge and skills in a variety of disciplines, such as print or electronic journalism; development communication; communication research; advertising; and public relations.

All the best,
