Dear Reader,

LEADERSHIP IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM.

Year after year, the leadership crisis in India is deepening.

The competitive position of corporate India is becoming lower in every competitiveness survey. When one company gets listed in USA, we celebrate. Is this our standard? The handling of hijacking affairs has once again demonstrated the ability of our political and bureaucratic leadership.

Is it with this kind of leadership that we have entered in the 21st century or do we need people who can make sacrifices in the interest of the country and the organisations? In the gradually deteriorating political leadership and diminishing competitiveness in industry, how can we maintain the dignity of our country in the international forums. Don't we need to reinvent leadership?

How deep is the leadership crisis? It took one J.N.Tata to create 'Indian Institute of Science', Bangalore, today, it takes over dozen corporate titans to join hands to open one 'Indian School of Business'. In politics, is it not the same? Most of the politicians come as poor, take vow to remove poverty, but in process they become more rich, and the poor become poorer. Today, the obligation towards the society and principle centered leadership which was once displayed by people like Gandhi, Churchill, F.D.Rosevelt, Henry Ford, JRD Tata and Matsushita has ceased to exist. There is a leadership crisis throughout the world, but unfortunately India has become absolutely leaderless.

We have chosen to publish this magazine as a medium for reviving the spirit of leadership.

I would be thankful to receive readers' comments. In this issue you will enjoy reading many inspiring stories and instances about leaders and leadership.
