Death of Political Leadership - Lesson for the Corporate World
The political leadership in India is dead-long live politics. By any standard definition of Leadership - "Leadership is doing right things"; "Leadership is working around principles"; "The other name of leadership is character", we don't have political leaders, only a crowd of power thirsty people. The leadership crisis have been dealt final blow by the political activities of Jan/ Feb 98. Any party with any party the consequence has to be AIDS - and the result is death. Kesri's alliance with Ghazni of Bihar Laloo Prasad Yadav is no big surprise, but what is surprising & damaging is the alliance of BJP with AIADMK led by Jayalalitha. Atalji has not only failed to work on principles, he has also miserably failed in his judgement about Jayalalitha. Atalji, even if God wishes, a government which is based on support from Jayalalitha and Subramaniam Swamy cannot last more than a year. Thus the best course of action is to act on principles without compromise. Gandhi was not the Prime Minister. India, today needs a leader and not a Prime Minister. Please act as a leader and not as a Prime Minister. The Corporate world must learn a lesson from this. The common feature of visionary companies like Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble, Boeing, Merck, Hewlett Packard, etc. is that they are prepared to change every thing except their core ideologies. If the values and principles are important for politics they are same for corporate world too. S.K.SHAHI
