  • Lead technology development projects and guide teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (External labs/University researchers).
  • Create innovative power distribution and energy management solutions and prototypes based on advanced technologies.
  • Identify and develop commercialization solutions with substantial growth potential for Eaton s power distribution businesses, and provide advisory services to business partners
  • Actively participate in strategic planning and development of Eaton product/service offerings and support New Product/Technology Introductions concurrent with Eaton business needs.
  • Provide mentoring and help develop/train less experienced staff in a working environment.
  • Participate in brainstorming and design bursts contributing to the technology strategy.
  • Support building business unit relationships by presenting ideas and projects, contributing to the development of compelling value propositions for technology work and acquiring resources and funding needed to ensure success.
  • develop yourself as a subject matter expert both internally and externally to Eaton; attend conferences, seminars and/or consortium meetings in relevant industry to network with technical peers and stay relevant in their fields.
  • The Lead Engineer is expected to serve as a technical and/or project lead on projects within the Energy Systems team. They are responsible for meeting the project schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all efforts under their control.
  • Perform research on power component/ power system reliability, DERMS, prognostics and diagnostics/ health monitoring of power grid assets
  • Bring together state-of-the-art reliability engineering methods, physics-of-failure understanding, data acquisition and analytics, mathematical modeling and tools for asset management, to improve the reliability of mission-critical power grid equipment
  • Drive multidisciplinary research projects in close collaboration with stake holders including business units, COE s, as well as external universities and industrial partners.
  • Record research findings and file patents, trade secrets and write technical reports
Qualifications

Requirement:

  • Master s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or comparable qualification/experience in Mechanical engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of highly relevant industry experience with strong project/program management capabilities with ability to work with large project teams
  • Experience in developing advanced control and optimization algorithms to create new intelligent devices, solutions and services for the business
  • Experience designing and implementing controls for use in industrial-grade controllers to manage modern distribution networks with high penetrations of both controllable and uncontrollable distributed energy resources (DERs)
  • Experience in designing controls and optimization strategies for grid-level and site-level solutions in distribution automation, DER management, and demand response.
  • Experience in a variety of power system protection, monitoring and control (FLISR, AMI, integrated Volt/VAR control, adaptive protection, etc.)
  • Experience in developing physics-based AI/ machine learning solutions for power system protection and health monitoring of power devices (Relays, CB s and network protectors).
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art diagnostics and lifetime prognostics methods, and experience with data acquisition and electronics is desirable.
  • Knowledge of sensing technologies, digital signal processing, on-premise and cloud application.
  • Experience in project-based development (including lean software development) and work in matrixed organization.
  • Basic knowledge of electrification related technologies for EV and aerospace application (eg. MEA, e-mobility)
  • Reliability engineering experience in different domains (e.g. mechanical, electronics), signal processing, data analytics and modeling, AI, machine learning and statistics is a strong plus.
  • Industrial experience (e.g. in power technology or other industries like automotive, aerospace) in developing and implementing product reliability improvement actions is a strong plus
  • Proficient in model-based control system development using tools such as Matlab/Simulink, AMESim, and real-time control systems in both hardware-in-the-loop simulation and prototype systems.
  • Expertise in control technology development such as motion compensation, adaptive controls and model-predictive power management.
  • Experience on algorithm development and programming skills (with languages like Python, C/C++ etc.)
  • Hands on experience with engineering tools like PSCAD MATLAB and HIL testing using Raspberry Pi or BeagleBone etc.
  • Experience in leading and delivering technology readiness level (TRL 3 to 6) projects
  • Proven track record of patent applications, trade secrets or publications at top scientific conferences and journals
